Go Kaya, It's Ya Birthday!

Yes, 29 years ago today, right around this time of morning, I was born. I'm not a big birthday celebrator. I used to always spend time with my family some time near the anniversary of my birth date, especially since my brother's birthday is six days after mine. As I've gotten older, that's become less important. It's more important to me now to always spend time with the family when I can.

My favorite birthday treat growing up was cookie monster cupcakes. Vanilla cupcakes with huge mounds of white frosting covered in blue jimmie hair, with frosting eyes and half a chocolate chip cookie in the "mouth." The funny thing is I didn't like frosting. I just loved the way the six cookie monster cupcake heads looked in the box. They smelled good too. I would turn the cupcake upside down to get the frosting off, then eat the cake part.

Today, I woke up at 3:30 am. That is not a typo. I woke up to thoughts of Naturally You! databases, and couldn't resist the calling anymore when I got up at 4 am and sat at my desk. One of the first things I did was check our Yahoo! group for new messages.

There was a message that had "Happy Birthday!!!!" as the subject, but for some reason I didn't realize it was for me until I opened it:

Greetings,

If the information on www.myspace.com is correct, today is Kaya
Casper's birthday (Publisher of Naturally You! Magazine). I sent her a message on her myspace page but I would like to wish her a happy and blessed birthday once again. Plus I wanted to tell everyone here in the group about her blessed day. Please send your best to her if you can on her special day.

Peace and blessings, Shonda

I'm a pretty sentimental person. I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world that this sister took the extra time to post this message to the group and asked that other members send me a message. She didn't have to do it. The Yahoo! group is the greatest. If you're not a member, you're missing out on some seriously special sister support (alliteration yall). What a lovely way to start my day.

So after moderating the Yahoo! messages and checking out myspace, it was on. Database development time. I'm a programmer by trade for those who don't know. I created a new link directory for the website. This is something I've been fantasizing about for a long time. Yes, I fantasize about 1) database development and 2) new features and ideas for Naturally You!.

I'm really excited about this database because it will serve as a natural haircare and lifestyle hub of sorts, connecting you to a ton of natural focused info all from one central location. I have to make one more little tweak to the code to make it display properly, but I let that go for the moment. Over the past three or four hours, I added over 100 links to the database - more coming soon.

Next up in the agenda for today is yoga, which I haven't done in way too long, retwisting another section of my fuzzy twists, then some reading and journaling.

By the way, Garden of Eatin' Chili & Lime All Natural Cantina Chips, available at Fresh Grocer, Whole Foods et al - part of a balanced breakfast. Get some.

Well I must admit I haven't had a chance to go to myspace for awhile but I am very honored to have met such a wonderful spirit. Although I have only met you through your words & wisdome online & in print.
A very happy & blessed birthday to you Kaya. You remind me that a person can live their dream without compromise.
Thx
