Box Braids

After wearing my cornrows with two strand twists in the back for a day or two, I decided to convert the twists to braids. I say convert instead of redo because I took out each twist one by one, combed through, moisturized and braided instead of taking them all out and then redoing the whole section. One by one is a lot more manageable for me, not to mention no re-parting!

I left the cornrows in the front. I really didn't like this look that much, but I left it that way for the day anyway. There was no way I was going to try to do something else at this point. To give it a bit more oomph, I set the braids on rollers overnight. Spongy pink rollers. Am I the only one who still has those?

I realized later why people put rollers in vertically instead of horizontally. It will create more of a spiral curl, which I didn't think about at first. I thought this look was fairly cute though. Maybe too cute - this look is definitely "youthful."

After a few days of that, I decided take out the cornrows and box braid my whole head. Again I unravelled one cornrow at a time and braided it.

My braids in the back still had a bit of texture from the curls, but I hadn't reset it. They had also shrunken a bit, which I liked.

A week later, I am still wearing this set of braids. It is shrinking, fuzzing up, and gaining more character every day. More pictures soon.

I like your braids and the color of your hair! And like the other comment I too still have those rollers. I think it looks better without the cornrows in the front but thats just my opinion. Anyway if you are ever looking for more braided styles check out my blog at http://braidsbykristen.blogspot.com

Thanks youree, and I'm glad I'm not alone!

Thanks kristen! I think I like the braids without the cornrows too, but I have to say I don't think box braids are the best style on me in general. I've seen them look great on other people (see the first issue of Naturally You! Mag), but they're just a bit too "flat" on me. They are probably too small too - I did like my braid rolls. I do like them better with the curls, and I think I'd like them in bantu knots and/or with some other adornments.

The partings are so awesome! This is inspirational for me. I plan on taking my dreads down and wearing box braids.
How long did it take to finish that style?
